Authorities in Fridley are actively investigating a shooting that left an adult female seriously injured Thursday night near the on-ramp to eastbound Interstate 694 from northbound University Avenue NE.
Police responded to the area around 9:05 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting involving vehicles traveling along University Avenue.
Victim Found Inside Vehicle With Neck Gunshot Wound
According to initial reports from officers at the scene, the female victim was located inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.
Emergency responders immediately began providing medical aid before transporting the victim to a nearby hospital by EMS around 9:20 p.m. Her current condition has not yet been officially released.
Witnesses Describe Black SUV Leaving Scene
Witnesses told investigators that the suspected shooter was believed to be inside a black SUV that continued traveling northbound following the gunfire.
Preliminary information indicates the shooting may have occurred in the northbound lanes of University Avenue NE, just south of 53rd Avenue North, before the victim’s vehicle came to a stop near the interstate ramp area.
