Cheri Jean Huff Obituary: Waterloo, Iowa Nurse and Mother Dies at 64 After Lengthy Illness
The Waterloo, Iowa community is mourning the passing of Cheri Jean Huff, a beloved mother, grandmother, and longtime healthcare professional whose life was dedicated to caring for others. Cheri, 64, passed away on August 6, 2026, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home following a lengthy illness.
Born on March 14, 1962, in Cedar Falls, Cheri was the daughter of Roger and Barbara (Christenson) Trueg. Throughout her life, she built meaningful relationships with family, friends, colleagues, and countless patients who benefited from her compassion and dedication.
Cheri graduated from Cedar Falls High School with the class of 1980 before continuing her education at Allen College of Nursing, where she graduated in 1983. Her nursing career became a reflection of her caring nature and commitment to helping others.
Over the years, Cheri served in several important healthcare roles. She spent many years as the House Supervisor at Covenant Medical Center, where she provided leadership and support within the medical community. She also worked as a cardiac nurse at Mason City Hospital and later continued her career as a registered nurse in long-term care.
Her work as a nurse touched many lives. Cheri was remembered not only for her professional skills but also for the kindness, patience, and compassion she brought to those she cared for throughout her career.
In 1985, Cheri married Tony Huff, and together they welcomed four children. Although their marriage later ended, family remained one of the most important parts of Cheri’s life.
Outside of her career, Cheri found joy in simple moments. She enjoyed working in her yard, crafting, and creating special items for the people she loved. She especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren and took great pride in making memories with her family.
Cheri’s greatest joy came from being surrounded by those closest to her. Her love for her children, grandchildren, and extended family was evident in the time and care she devoted to them.
Cheri was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Barbara Trueg; her son, Anthony Huff; her brother, Douglas Trueg; and two grandchildren. Their loss was deeply felt, and Cheri carried those memories throughout her life.
She leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor her memory, including her daughters, Ashley (Jim) Hofer of Evansdale, Sydney Huff of Waterloo, and Abbie (Dustin Quade) Huff of Dubuque. She is also survived by her brothers, Larry (Shelly) Trueg of Bloomington, Indiana, and Mike (Carol) Trueg of Phoenix, Arizona, along with her grandchildren Jasper, Jayney, Canyon, and Roman.
For Cheri’s family and friends, her passing marks the end of a life filled with love, service, and dedication. While her absence will be deeply felt, the memories she created and the care she showed others will continue to live on.
