Initial information from the scene indicated that the motorcyclist swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision with another vehicle before striking a truck. The rider came to rest in the slow lane and was pronounced dead at the scene, investigators said.
Following the crash, authorities closed the three right-hand lanes of southbound I-15 while investigators worked at the scene. Only one lane remained open to traffic during the investigation.
The closure caused major traffic congestion during the Friday evening commute, with traffic reportedly backing up for more than 15 miles through the Cajon Pass.
All lanes were eventually cleared at approximately 8:15 p.m., allowing traffic to resume through the area.
The identity of the motorcyclist had not been released in the available information, pending notification of family members.
