According to Louisiana State Police Troop I, the crash occurred shortly before 6:30 a.m. on May 11, 2026, along Louisiana Highway 182 near Field Road. Investigators said Paul was walking along the shoulder of the roadway when she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene immediately after the collision.

Authorities confirmed that Paul sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A toxicology sample was collected as part of the standard investigation procedure.

Troopers said the suspected vehicle is believed to be a sedan, and investigators have identified Travis Gilmore as the suspected driver in connection with the crash.
