The McAllen community is mourning the tragic loss of 24-year-old Robert Butkiewicz, who was killed Monday afternoon in a devastating single-vehicle crash in Linn, Texas.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened around 1 p.m. on U.S. 281 north of FM 1017. Investigators said Robert was driving near an overpass when, for reasons still unknown, his vehicle left the roadway and entered the median. Authorities reported that he then overcorrected, striking a concrete barrier, which caused the vehicle to go airborne at the entrance of the overpass before landing in the southbound grassy area near U.S. Frontage 281.
Robert was pronounced dead at the scene.
His sudden passing has left loved ones heartbroken and struggling to comprehend the loss of a life taken far too soon. Family and friends are remembering Robert as someone whose presence mattered—someone who had dreams ahead of him, plans for the future, and a life that should have had so much more time.
In the wake of this tragedy, those who knew him are holding close the memories he leaves behind, cherishing the moments they shared and grieving the painful silence left by his absence. His death serves as a reminder of how quickly life can change, and how deeply one loss can impact an entire community.
The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the crash.
As McAllen mourns, Robert Butkiewicz will be remembered with love, honored through the memories he created, and never forgotten by the people whose lives he touched
