Double Homicide Investigation: Two Men Killed, Third Injured in Wheeling Shooting
WHEELING, W.Va. — Police are investigating a deadly shooting at an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Wheeling after two adult men were killed and a third man was injured.
According to preliminary information, officers were dispatched to the apartment complex at approximately 12:45 p.m. after receiving reports of gunshots.
When officers arrived, they discovered two adult male victims inside a vehicle. A third shooting victim was located just outside the vehicle. Emergency personnel responded to the scene as officers secured the area and began investigating.
Two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The third victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators said preliminary information indicates the victims had been involved in an altercation with one or more suspects before the confrontation escalated into gunfire. Detectives are now working to determine what sparked the altercation and what happened immediately before the shooting.
The identities of the deceased victims have not yet been released. Authorities may withhold their names until family members have been notified.
Police are also working to determine the identity and whereabouts of the person or people responsible. It remains unclear whether the suspect or suspects knew the victims or whether the shooting was the result of a dispute that developed at the apartment complex.
Crime-scene investigators are expected to examine the vehicle, surrounding area and other potential evidence while detectives interview witnesses and review any available surveillance footage.
Authorities have not released information about a possible weapon, motive or arrests at this time.
