Trenton Shooting: 11 Shot, 2 Killed After Gunfire Erupts at Overnight New Jersey Gathering
TRENTON, N.J. — A large overnight gathering in Trenton turned deadly early Sunday morning when gunfire erupted along Locust Street, leaving two people dead and nine others wounded, according to police.
The shooting happened at approximately 12:25 a.m. on August 30, 2026, in the area of the 100 block of Locust Street. Officers responded after receiving reports of multiple shots fired and discovered numerous people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Eleven people shot
Police confirmed that 11 people were struck by gunfire.
Two victims died, while the remaining nine were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for medical treatment. Authorities had not initially released the conditions of the surviving victims or the identities of those killed.
The hospital, located roughly two miles from the shooting scene, also became part of the police response as injured victims arrived for treatment.
Gunfire follows neighborhood gathering
Initial reports indicate that a neighborhood gathering or cookout had been taking place before the shooting.
People had reportedly gathered in the area Saturday evening, with the gathering continuing into the early hours of Sunday. At some point, gunfire erupted, sending people fleeing and leaving multiple victims wounded.

Investigators established a large crime scene along Locust Street as they worked to document evidence and reconstruct the shooting.
Nearly 40 evidence markers were reportedly visible across the area, underscoring the amount of evidence investigators were examining.
Detectives are expected to review physical evidence, interview witnesses and examine available surveillance or cellphone footage as they attempt to determine how the shooting unfolded.
Police presence at hospital
A significant police presence was also reported at Capital Health Regional Medical Center after victims were brought there.
Authorities temporarily secured an entrance to the hospital, and a vehicle with visible damage was reportedly towed from near the emergency-room entrance. Officials have not publicly explained the vehicle’s connection to the shooting.
A witness speaking with local media said her nephew had been shot in the head and transported to the hospital. That account has not been independently detailed by police, and the official condition of that victim has not been released.
No arrests announced
As of the latest available reports, no arrests had been announced.
Police have not publicly identified a suspect or suspects, and investigators have not released a confirmed motive.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force is leading the investigation alongside Trenton police.
