The community of King and Queen, Virginia, is remembering a beloved father and grandfather, affectionately known as “Daddy” and “Papa,” whose life was marked by love for his family, strong faith, and a deep connection to the outdoors.
He passed away peacefully at home on March 16, 2025. Months later, his family gathered on Saturday, August 29, 2026, to honor his final wishes and lay his ashes to rest in the places that held special meaning throughout his life.
His love for the water and outdoors was reflected in the family’s decision to scatter his ashes in the York, Pamunkey, and Mattaponi Rivers. These waterways were closely connected to many of his cherished memories, including years spent fishing, working shad nets, and tending his crab pots.
Another portion of his ashes was placed near his wife’s plot at their home church in King and Queen, creating a lasting connection between the couple and the faith community that was important to them.
For his family, he was much more than a husband, father, and grandfather. He was a source of comfort, wisdom, and love whose presence created countless memories that will remain with them.
His loved ones are especially grateful that he was able to spend his final moments at home, in the place where he wanted to be, surrounded by the familiarity and peace that meant so much to him.
As they continue to grieve, his family is choosing to remember the life he lived and the values he shared. His faith, the lessons he taught, his love of nature, and the memories created with those closest to him remain an enduring part of his legacy.
Though his passing has left an immeasurable void, the places he loved and the people he cherished will continue to carry his memory forward. For those who called him Daddy and Papa, his love and influence will remain a treasured part of their lives.
