The community of Forest Hill, Melbourne, is mourning the death of a 72-year-old woman from Boronia, who died following a serious two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Springvale Road and Canterbury Road shortly before 11:30 a.m. She was travelling as a backseat passenger when the crash occurred and was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency efforts.
The collision also left several others injured. The 52-year-old female driver of the vehicle, also from Boronia, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. A 14-year-old male front-seat passenger from Boronia sustained minor injuries and was also transported for treatment. The second vehicle was driven by a 41-year-old man from Clayton, who was reportedly uninjured, while his 21-year-old passenger from Parkdale suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. Investigators are expected to assess the vehicles, roadway, witness accounts and other available evidence to determine how the collision occurred. Authorities have not disclosed a cause or assigned responsibility, and no conclusions should be drawn while the investigation remains ongoing.
