Shane Basquill and Mary Anne Oberlies Shooting News: Two Killed in Shooting at Gulfport AT&T Store, Suspect Arrested
The Gulfport, Mississippi, community is mourning the deaths of Shane Basquill, 31, and Mary Anne Oberlies, 78, who were reportedly killed in a shooting Monday, September 7, at an AT&T store inside Crossroads Mall.
According to authorities, 71-year-old Samuel Jerome Andrews entered the store at approximately 11:14 a.m. carrying a shotgun after reportedly becoming upset over a bill.
Basquill, who was the store manager, reportedly attempted to close the door in an effort to protect people inside the business. Authorities said Andrews allegedly fired through the door before entering the store.
Basquill was killed in the shooting, while Oberlies, who was reportedly a customer at the store, also suffered fatal injuries.
Andrews was later arrested without incident, according to authorities. He is being held on two counts of first-degree murder and one count of shooting into a crowd.
The shooting has left employees, customers, families, and members of the Gulfport community grieving.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
