The community of Augusta is facing a difficult and emotional reminder of how quickly life can change, following two separate pedestrian-related incidents that unfolded early Wednesday morning in Richmond County, including the tragic death of Petrick Brown and a second incident involving a woman injured on railroad tracks. One man has tragically lost his life, while another woman remains hospitalized after a separate railroad-related accident.
Authorities with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office confirm they are actively investigating both incidents, which occurred just hours apart and have left families, witnesses, and first responders deeply shaken.
A Life Remembered: Petrick Brown
In the early morning hours of Wednesday, a 52-year-old Augusta man, identified by the Richmond County Coroner’s Office as Petrick Brown, lost his life following a devastating collision in a parking lot off Peach Orchard Road.
Deputies responded to the 3100 block of Peach Orchard Road at approximately 5:06 a.m. after reports of an injured person. Upon arrival, investigators learned that Brown had been struck by a vehicle traveling through a designated lane within a dimly lit parking lot.
Officials say Brown was walking through the area wearing dark clothing when he stepped in front of the moving vehicle. The driver reportedly stated that he did not see Brown before the impact.
Emergency crews transported Brown to Wellstar MCG, where he was later pronounced deceased at 5:44 a.m. The Richmond County Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation.
His passing has left a painful void for those who knew him, as loved ones now grapple with the sudden and heartbreaking loss of a man whose life ended far too soon in an unexpected tragedy.
Second Incident: Woman Injured on Wylds Road Railroad Tracks
Just over an hour later, deputies were called to the 1800 block of Wylds Road at approximately 8:23 a.m. after a separate emergency involving a pedestrian and a train.
According to officials, a woman was reportedly either sitting or lying on the railroad tracks when a CSX train approached the area. As the train neared, she attempted to get off the tracks but was struck.
The woman was rushed to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities have not released her identity at this time.
CSX Transportation officials responded to the scene alongside deputies, and the railroad crossing was temporarily shut down in both directions while the train remained stopped for investigation and clearance.
