The soccer community is mourning the passing of Kayla Saager-Beckley, 33, a former Division I soccer player, coach, and college recruiting scout whose life was dedicated to the sport she loved and to helping develop the next generation of athletes.
Kayla passed away on September 9, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, leaving behind family, friends, former teammates, athletes, and colleagues who are remembering a woman whose passion, talent, and commitment made a lasting impact both on and off the field.
Originally from East Islip, New York, Kayla’s love for soccer began at just three years old. Her dedication and natural ability quickly became evident, eventually earning her recognition as an all-state player at East Islip High School before continuing her athletic journey at the collegiate level.
Her Division I career included playing for NC State, West Virginia, and Binghamton University, where she established herself as a talented and respected player. During her time at Binghamton, Kayla became a standout athlete and team captain, earning admiration for her leadership and determination.
In 2017, she received the prestigious America East Striker of the Year award after an impressive season in which she recorded 11 goals and seven assists. Her performances also earned recognition from Top Drawer Soccer, placing her among some of the nation’s top collegiate players.
After her playing career, Kayla continued giving back to the sport through coaching and college recruiting, using her experience and knowledge to guide young athletes as they pursued their own soccer dreams.
To those who knew her, Kayla was more than an accomplished athlete—she was a mentor, teammate, coach, and inspiration. Her influence will continue through the many players she encouraged and the lives she touched throughout her journey.
