John Hawthorne Obituary, Fashion World Mourns Passing Of Top Senior Male Models and Mentor
The fashion and modeling world has lost a true icon. John Hawthorne was more than just a face on a runway; he was a symbol of grace, confidence, and timeless elegance. As a premier senior male model and mentor, John represented *Seniors On The Runway* Albany, GA, with unparalleled distinction. His influence stretched far beyond Georgia, serving as a beacon of inspiration for senior models across Alabama and Florida. We will deeply miss his impeccable style, his effortless swag, and that unforgettable strut that commanded every room he entered. It is incredibly difficult to say goodbye to a man who taught us all how to age with power.
However, John’s impact reached much deeper than the runway. SOWEGA Rising honors the life of John Hawthorne, Sr., a man whose profound legacy is woven into the very fabric of our community. A retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, John was a trailblazer. He served with distinction as one of the first African American commanders of a Pershing missile unit in Germany, carrying a spirit of excellence into every mission.
Upon returning to civilian life, John dedicated himself to the upliftment of Southwest Georgia. As the Director of the Department of Community and Economic Development for the City of Albany, he acted as a “bridge builder.” Whether he was leading recovery efforts after the historic Flood of 1994 or advocating for affordable senior housing and equitable economic growth, John worked tirelessly to ensure that progress in East and South Albany benefited the entire city.
John Hawthorne was a leader, a mentor, and a visionary. His steadfast presence and commitment to structural growth will be missed profoundly. We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to his beloved wife and the Hawthorne family.
