According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched Tuesday at approximately 5:30 p.m. to The Arden Apartment Complex near Hollow Tree Lane after family members requested a welfare check on their daughter, who had not been heard from for several days.

Investigators said concern grew when relatives were unable to make contact with her, prompting them to reach out to apartment management for assistance. Staff at the complex then entered the unit and made the tragic discovery of the woman’s body inside the residence.

Sgt. Jason Brown with the sheriff’s office homicide division confirmed that deputies arrived shortly after and immediately began processing the scene. The victim was later identified as 22-year-old Kaitlyn Graves, who authorities said lived alone in the apartment.

On Tuesday night, Sgt. Brown described the condition of the victim’s injuries as “pretty severe trauma,” while noting that the official cause of death would be determined by the medical examiner. However, by Wednesday, investigators confirmed that Graves suffered blunt force trauma injuries, and the case had been officially elevated to a homicide investigation.

“At this point, clearly a homicide,” Brown said during an update.

Authorities also confirmed there were no immediate signs of forced entry into the apartment, a detail that has led investigators to believe the suspect may have had access to the residence or was known to the victim. Detectives are now carefully reviewing surveillance footage from the apartment complex and surrounding areas in hopes of identifying any suspicious activity or individuals who may have entered or left the vicinity around the time of the incident.

In addition to video evidence, investigators are conducting interviews with neighbors, family members, and anyone who may have had recent contact with Graves. Authorities are working to establish a detailed timeline of her final known movements and communications, noting that she had been deceased for “some time,” likely no more than a couple of days before being discovered.

Detectives are also examining her recent activities, personal relationships, and any potential conflicts or ongoing issues that could help explain what led to her death. While officials have not identified a suspect, they indicated that the incident does not appear to be random and believe the responsible party was likely someone known to the victim.

Despite ongoing investigative efforts, authorities said there are currently no obvious suspects, and no arrests have been made.

The sheriff’s office is urging anyone with information that may assist the investigation to come forward. Tips can be submitted directly to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
