With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we remember Betty Alston, 85, who was found deceased outside a home near Apex on Tuesday morning along Alston Road near New Hope Church Road. Her sudden passing has left her family and loved ones in deep grief and disbelief.
According to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a possible dog attack and discovered Alston outside the residence around 11 a.m. Tuesday. Emergency responders confirmed her death at the scene.
Authorities said family members who arrived at the location encountered three dogs near her body and were able to drive the animals away. The dogs have since been secured as investigators continue to determine what led to the tragic incident.
The North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office is assisting in the investigation as officials work to establish the exact cause of death and whether the animals played a role.
