With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we honor and remember the life of Dennis Dixon, 57, the longtime Heidelberg Borough Police Chief whose sudden passing has left his community, colleagues, and family in mourning.
Chief Dixon was found deceased inside his patrol car on Monday night in the 600 block of Grant Avenue, according to Allegheny County Police. Officials said he was discovered around 8:50 p.m. and that his death does not appear suspicious at this time. The investigation remains ongoing, and the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet determined the official cause or manner of death.
Dixon was an 18-year veteran of the Heidelberg Police Department and had served as police chief since 2018. Throughout his career, he was known for his steady leadership, professionalism, and dedication to serving the small borough he called home.
Before becoming chief, Dixon served as a sergeant where he was in charge of the department’s K-9 unit, working with a police dog named Rocky. He later rose to the rank of lieutenant and was selected to attend the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, a prestigious achievement highlighting his commitment to law enforcement excellence.
Heidelberg Mayor Ken LaSota described Dixon as a dedicated public servant who had a “very distinctive career” in the borough. Despite leading a small department of full-time and part-time officers, Dixon’s leadership and training set him apart and earned him respect within the community and beyond.
Chief Dixon is survived by his wife and two children, who now face an unimaginable loss. His passing has also prompted an outpouring of support from colleagues and neighboring departments.
At this time, no acting chief has been appointed, and surrounding police agencies are providing mutual aid to support the borough during this difficult period.
Chief Dennis Dixon will be remembered for his years of service, his leadership, and his unwavering dedication to public safety.
