A homicide investigation is underway in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood after a woman was fatally shot early Thursday morning, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Officers responded just after 2 a.m. on May 21 to reports of a shooting in the 3200 block of North Davidson Street near East 35th Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a woman suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Medic transported the victim to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center for emergency treatment, but she later died from her injuries. Around 5:30 a.m., CMPD confirmed the case was being investigated as a homicide.
Although authorities had not initially released the victim’s identity, the woman was identified by friends and loved ones on social media as Taylor Sylver. As news of her death spread online, social media quickly became filled with emotional tributes, prayers, and messages of heartbreak from those mourning the tragic loss.
Many described Taylor as a caring person whose life was taken far too soon. Friends shared memories, photos, and condolences while expressing shock over the devastating incident that has now left another family grieving senseless violence.
At this time, investigators have not released information about what may have led to the shooting, and no arrests have been announced. Detectives continue gathering evidence and speaking with witnesses as they work to determine exactly what happened in the early morning hours.
