A quiet stretch of Interstate 49 turned tragic in the early hours of Thursday morning after a single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a 40-year-old woman from Texas.
According to Louisiana State Police, troopers were dispatched shortly before 3:00 a.m. on May 21, 2026, to the northbound lanes of I-49 just north of Natchitoches following reports of a vehicle that had left the roadway and overturned.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 2026 Nissan, driven by 40-year-old Felisha Roe of Palestine, Texas, was traveling northbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle suddenly lost control. Investigators say the car veered off the highway, left the pavement, and overturned off the roadside.
Emergency responders arrived on scene and discovered the vehicle badly damaged after the rollover. Roe, who was not restrained at the time of the crash, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities say routine toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials have not yet determined what factors led to the driver losing control, and the exact sequence of events remains under review.
The Louisiana State Police emphasized that while some crashes are unavoidable, seat belt use remains one of the most effective protections for reducing fatalities and serious injuries. In this case, investigators noted that Roe was unrestrained at the time of the collision.
