A tragic accident in Iroquois Park claimed the life of a man Saturday evening after a tree fell and struck him while he was riding a bicycle, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department.
Officers were called around 7 p.m. to the 1600 block of Rundill Road in Iroquois Park to assist emergency medical services following reports of a person down.
Authorities said a 911 caller reported that a tree had fallen directly onto a cyclist and that bystanders were unable to move the heavy debris off the victim. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and attempted to render aid.
Despite those efforts, police confirmed the cyclist, a man whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. The Louisville Metro Police Department’s Homicide Unit will conduct a death investigation, which is standard procedure in cases of unattended or unexplained fatalities.
