The Lincoln County community is mourning the heartbreaking and tragic loss of 16-year-old Brynn Bentley, whose life was cut short in a two-vehicle crash on Friday night.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the collision happened at approximately 9:52 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 127 and Ashe Road. Investigators said Brynn was driving a 2018 silver Mazda 3 and was exiting the Dove Cove subdivision when she attempted to turn left onto U.S. 127. At that moment, her vehicle collided with a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado traveling southbound on the highway.
Emergency responders were dispatched quickly to the scene following reports of a serious crash. Officials said volunteers with the Lincoln County Fire Department worked to extricate Brynn from the vehicle due to the severity of the impact. Lincoln County EMS immediately began life-saving efforts upon arrival.
Despite those efforts, Brynn Bentley succumbed to her injuries at the scene. She was later pronounced deceased by Lincoln County Coroner Farris Marcum.
The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was also transported to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, where officials said the injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
The crash prompted a large emergency response, with deputies, fire personnel, and crash reconstruction teams working through the night to secure the area, document evidence, and investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing as they continue to review all contributing factors.
