The investigation into the fatal stabbing of 32-year-old Chay Wilson has taken a major development after Peel Regional Police identified a suspect and issued a Canada-wide warrant.
According to investigators, officers responded to reports of a stabbing near Hurontario Street and Agnes Street in Mississauga on May 19 at approximately 12:15 p.m. Police say the incident began after an altercation between the victim and another man in a nearby parking lot. During the confrontation, Wilson was allegedly stabbed.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene, but Wilson was pronounced dead shortly afterward. His death has left many in the community shocked as authorities continue to search for the suspect believed responsible.
Police have identified 28-year-old Jerome Edwards, who has no fixed address, as the man wanted in connection with the homicide. Detectives have now issued a Canada-wide warrant charging him with second-degree murder.
Investigators described Edwards as a Black man with a medium build, short black hair, and a black goatee. At the time he was last seen, police say he was wearing a white T-shirt, a black zip-style jacket, fluorescent green pants, yellow Timberland-style boots, and a black watch on his right wrist. Authorities added that he is known to frequent the Hurontario Street and Dundas Street area.
Peel Regional Police warned that Edwards should be considered armed and dangerous. Members of the public are strongly advised not to approach him if spotted and instead call 911 immediately.
Officials are also urging Edwards to surrender to authorities and seek legal counsel. Police further warned that anyone found assisting or harbouring the suspect could face criminal charges.
As the investigation continues, the death of Chay Wilson has sparked renewed concerns about violence in the community. Friends, relatives, and residents continue to mourn the loss of a life taken far too soon while hoping justice will soon be served.
