Authorities in Savannah are continuing legal proceedings involving 25-year-old Shawn Antonio Campbell Jr., who has now been indicted on additional charges connected to a separate strangulation case while he was already out on bond for a felony murder case tied to a 2022 homicide investigation.
According to court and investigative records, prosecutors allege that Campbell forced entry into a woman’s residence and strangled her in front of a child during the incident. The indictment adds to the serious legal troubles Campbell was already facing in connection with the 2022 shooting death of 42-year-old Timothy Lewis in Savannah.
Investigators say Campbell had been released on a $20,000 bond after spending approximately a year and a half in jail awaiting proceedings in the murder case. Court records further indicate that his ankle monitor was removed in 2024 prior to the additional arrests that followed. Since posting bond in the homicide case, Campbell has reportedly been arrested three separate times.
The Chatham County District Attorney’s Office stated that prosecutors opposed bond requests made by Campbell during the course of the proceedings. However, the final rulings regarding bond conditions were made by Judge Lisa Colbert.
Campbell remains charged in connection with the death of Timothy Lewis, whose killing in 2022 deeply affected members of the Savannah community. The ongoing proceedings have drawn renewed public attention to questions surrounding bond decisions, repeat arrests while on pretrial release, and concerns about community safety.
Court proceedings related to both cases were scheduled for this morning, including a plea hearing connected to the murder case and an arraignment tied to the strangulation indictment. Additional details are expected to emerge as prosecutors and defense attorneys continue presenting arguments before the court.
The cases continue to move through the judicial system as investigators, attorneys, and court officials work through the legal process surrounding the allegations.
