Officials said the collision happened at approximately 5:51 a.m. on May 26, just south of El Rancho Road. Preliminary investigation indicates a 2016 Ford F-150 was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when it collided head-on with a 2017 Ford Fusion.

The Ford F-150 was driven by 17-year-old Elias Shane Kincanon of Amarillo, while the Ford Fusion was driven by 18-year-old Tori Dakota Bunch of Panhandle.

Following the violent impact, the pickup caught fire. DPS reported that brave Good Samaritans immediately rushed in and were able to pull the teen driver from the burning vehicle, acting without hesitation in a moment of chaos and danger.

Kincanon was transported by ambulance to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, where he is receiving treatment for serious injuries.

With deep sadness, authorities confirmed that Bunch was pronounced deceased at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Her passing has left family, friends, and the community mourning the loss of a young life taken far too soon.

Officials confirmed both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Despite this, both vehicles sustained severe damage due to the force of the head-on collision.

Investigators also reported a secondary crash occurred moments after the initial impact when another southbound vehicle struck the rear right quarter panel of the Ford F-150. Thankfully, no additional injuries were reported.

Emergency responders worked tirelessly through the early morning hours to secure the scene, provide aid, and clear debris from the roadway. The crash brought a heavy presence of first responders to the area as they worked with urgency and care under difficult conditions.

The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including why the pickup truck was traveling in the wrong direction.

As the community grieves this devastating loss and holds onto hope for the recovery of the injured teen, loved ones are remembering the lives affected and the pain left behind by this tragic moment.

The investigation remains ongoing.
