The Kinston Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that left a 28-year-old man dead early Thursday morning in Lenoir County.
Officers said they responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Stadiem Drive and Nobles Lane around 12:15 a.m. on May 7, 2026. When they arrived on scene, police located a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was identified as 28-year-old Marquez Lewis of Kinston. Authorities said officers immediately began life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived. Despite those efforts, Lewis was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.
Police have not released any information about a possible suspect or motive in the shooting.
The Kinston Police Department said the case remains an active investigation, with detectives continuing to gather evidence and follow up on leads related to the incident.
The area was secured overnight as investigators processed the scene and spoke with potential witnesses.
