HANOVER COUNTY, Va. — Authorities are investigating the deaths of a Mechanicsville woman and her former boyfriend after the woman was found dead inside her home and the man was later discovered deceased at his Goochland residence.
The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 45-year-old Kristen Michelle Moolhuyzen of Mechanicsville. Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a suspicious death at a residence in the 7400 block of Mook Court at approximately 8:10 p.m. on June 12.
Upon arrival, first responders located Moolhuyzen deceased inside the home. Hanover Fire-EMS personnel pronounced her dead at 8:23 p.m., according to officials.
Investigators said evidence collected at the scene quickly led them to identify Moolhuyzen’s former boyfriend, 44-year-old Daniel Aaron Geiges of Goochland, as a suspect in the case. Authorities subsequently located Geiges’ vehicle outside his apartment in the 7300 block of Wilkes Ridge Place and obtained search warrants for both properties.
Virginia State Police executed a search warrant at the Goochland residence early on June 13. During the search, troopers discovered Geiges dead inside the apartment. Officials have not released additional details regarding the circumstances of his death.
Hanover County Sheriff Greg Six described the incident as a “senseless act of violence” and commended the efforts of the multiple law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation.

In response to the tragedy, loved ones organized a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses and provide support for the children’s future needs. The fundraiser was launched with an initial goal of $5,500 and has received support from community members seeking to help the family during this difficult time.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the case to contact the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office or Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through the P3 Tips mobile application.
