Harkley, a 48-year-old Gardendale resident who died following a devastating single-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 on Saturday afternoon. Family, friends, and neighbors are remembering Harkley as a valued member of the community whose life ended far too soon.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the crash occurred at approximately 3 p.m. on June 20, 2026, near the 265-mile marker on Interstate 65, about one mile north of Fultondale. Investigators reported that Harkley was driving a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee when the vehicle suddenly left the roadway and collided with a roadside light pole.
The impact of the crash caused critical injuries, prompting emergency responders to quickly transport Harkley to UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
