Joseph Foust IV Obituary, LIMA, Ohio — A 33-year-old Lima man, Joseph Foust IV, has died following a tragic motorcycle crash Tuesday morning on North West Street in Allen County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Authorities say the collision occurred at approximately 5:39 a.m. in American Township when a motorcycle and a vehicle collided near the entrance to the Allen-Oakwood Correctional Institution.
According to a preliminary investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Lima Post, a Cadillac CTS driven by 55-year-old Tamara Hall of Elida was traveling southbound on North West Street when she attempted to make a left turn into the correctional facility. Investigators said the driver failed to yield the right-of-way during the turn.
At the same time, a northbound Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by Joseph Foust IV approached the area and was struck by the turning vehicle. The impact caused severe injuries to Foust.
Emergency responders transported Foust to Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, where he later succumbed to his injuries despite lifesaving efforts by medical personnel. Authorities confirmed that Hall also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the same hospital for treatment.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Lima Police Department, Lima Fire Department, American Township Fire Department, and Kenny’s Towing & Recovery, all working together to secure the crash site and assist with emergency care.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials have not announced whether any charges will be filed as they work to determine all contributing factors.
