Authorities have released the identity of the motorcyclist who was killed in a tragic two-vehicle crash that occurred on Friday, May 1, in Wenatchee.
According to the Wenatchee Police Department, the victim has been identified as 70-year-old David Borges of Wenatchee.
Investigators say the crash happened around 10:30 a.m. on North Western Avenue. Borges was traveling northbound on his motorcycle when a pickup truck driven by 61-year-old Byron Jones of East Wenatchee attempted to make a left turn onto Locust Avenue. At that moment, the motorcycle and the truck collided in the intersection.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, but despite life-saving efforts, Borges suffered severe traumatic injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the crash.
Authorities confirmed that intoxicants do not appear to have played a role in the collision. The impact forced officials to close several blocks of Western Avenue for multiple hours while investigators documented the scene and cleared the roadway.
The Wenatchee Police Department stated that the crash remains under active investigation. At this time, no citations have been issued, and officials have not yet determined fault as they continue to gather evidence and review the circumstances leading up to the collision.
The tragic incident has left the Wenatchee community mourning the loss of David Borges, a longtime local resident whose life was cut short in the sudden crash. Friends and neighbors are remembering him during this difficult time as investigators work to provide answers.
The investigation is ongoing.
