The Shelby community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Mark “Hondo” Henrickson Jr., a 43-year-old resident who died Tuesday afternoon following a tragic swimming pool incident in Summit Township. His unexpected passing has left family members, friends, and loved ones grieving the loss of a man remembered by many throughout the community.
According to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Henrickson was found unresponsive after diving into a residential swimming pool at a home in the 4800 block of West Birch Lane on Tuesday, July 14. Authorities said the incident occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. when Henrickson entered the pool and failed to resurface.
Investigators said family members quickly recognized that something was wrong and immediately entered the water in an attempt to help him. With assistance from firefighters with the Riverton Township Fire Department, Henrickson was removed from the pool, and lifesaving measures were started while emergency crews responded.
Despite the efforts of family members, firefighters, and medical personnel, Henrickson later died as a result of the incident. Authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
