Commerce City officials are reporting encouraging trends in public safety, announcing that violent crime has continued to decline over the past three years. While city leaders emphasize that even a single violent crime is one too many, they say the latest statistics reflect the positive impact of proactive policing strategies, advanced crime-fighting technology, and strong partnerships with community members.
According to city officials, recent high-profile incidents may have created the perception that crime is increasing. However, the overall data tells a different story. Authorities say violent crime has steadily decreased year over year, with notable reductions in aggravated assaults, shootings, and homicides.
In 2024, the Commerce City Police Department responded to nearly 400 aggravated assaults, investigated 111 shooting-related incidents—including reports of shots fired and gunshot wound cases—and recorded seven homicides. By the end of 2025, those figures had declined to 365 aggravated assaults, 95 shootings, and just one homicide, marking significant progress in reducing violent offenses.
The downward trend has continued into 2026. Preliminary data shows the city has recorded 84 aggravated assaults during the first quarter of the year, while only 28 shooting incidents had been reported through the end of June. Most notably, officials reported that Commerce City has experienced no homicides so far in 2026, a milestone they say reflects the effectiveness of ongoing crime prevention efforts.
City leaders attribute the improvement to a combination of targeted enforcement initiatives, increased officer presence in high-priority areas, the use of modern investigative technology, and close collaboration with residents who continue to report suspicious activity and support neighborhood safety initiatives.
Officials stressed that while the statistics are encouraging, they remain committed to further reducing crime and improving residents’ sense of security. The department says it will continue investing in data-driven policing, community engagement, and technological resources to address emerging public safety challenges before they escalate.
