Authorities say 31-year-old Eric Schaffer of Cuyahoga Falls was shot multiple times in the chest during the incident at the bar located in the 1300 block of Portage Path. Emergency crews responded around 8:14 p.m., and Schaffer was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:49 p.m. His death has been ruled a homicide.

A second victim, a 35-year-old man, was also shot in both legs. Officials say he is receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Larnell Nealy Jr., who allegedly fled the scene on foot following the shooting. Akron police launched an extensive search involving drones and K9 units.

Hours later, at approximately 11:21 p.m., Nealy arrived at the Summit County Jail and attempted to turn himself in, according to police. He has since been charged with murder and felonious assault and remains in custody.

Akron Police Chief Brian Harding said the violence began after an argument escalated inside the establishment, calling the incident a “senseless act” and praising officers for their rapid response.

The investigation remains ongoing.
