Novato police are investigating a reported shooting that left one person with a life-threatening gunshot wound Tuesday morning, August 4, 2026, in the 400 block of Alameda del Prado.
According to the Novato Police Department, dispatchers began receiving multiple 911 calls at approximately 10:10 a.m. from people reporting several shots fired in the area. Witnesses told authorities that a suspect fled the scene on foot.
As officers arrived, they received additional information indicating that the suspect had been seen running toward Calle Arboleda. Officers located the victim nearby, and emergency medical personnel provided assistance before transporting the injured person to a hospital.
Police said the individuals involved were known to each other and that the shooting is believed to have been targeted. Authorities have not released additional information about the circumstances that led to the confrontation.
Suspect Search Underway
Police provided a preliminary description of the suspect as an adult Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, wearing dark pants, a gray hooded sweatshirt and a black mask.
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol assisted Novato officers with a search of surrounding neighborhoods. Drone teams, CHP aircraft and a police canine team from the Vallejo Police Department were also involved in the search.
During the investigation, residents in the surrounding area were asked to shelter in place while officers worked to determine whether the suspect remained nearby. The extensive search was conducted as a precaution while authorities attempted to locate the individual.
Police urged members of the public not to approach or attempt to confront anyone they believe matches the description. Anyone who sees the suspect or knows where he may be located should contact 911.
Investigation Continues
The Novato Police Department’s Investigations Section is handling the case. Detectives are also seeking potential witnesses and camera footage that could help establish what happened before and after the shooting.
