The community of Dunkerton is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Ledger Dalton, a Dunkerton High School senior remembered for his courage, kindness, and extraordinary strength throughout his battle with leukemia.
Ledger was first diagnosed in December 2024 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Despite the severity of his illness, he faced each stage of treatment with resilience and determination that inspired everyone around him. His journey later became even more complex when his leukemia underwent a rare progression into acute myeloid leukemia (AML), requiring continued and intensive care.
Throughout his illness, Ledger was surrounded by the unwavering love of his family—his parents, Tina and Tim—who stepped away from work to remain by his side full-time. Their dedication reflected the deep bond within their family and the commitment they made to support him every step of the way.
Ledger’s strength extended beyond his family and into his school and community. Friends, classmates, and teachers rallied around him, offering encouragement, prayers, and support during his treatment. Many remember him not only for his bravery but also for the positivity and quiet strength he continued to show even during the most difficult moments.
A celebration of life is planned for Friday, where the Dunkerton community will come together to honor Ledger’s memory and the impact he had on those around him. In addition, crisis support staff have been made available to help students and staff process the grief of his passing and support one another during this difficult time.
