Gavin Cole Hutcherson, 13, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, leaving his family, friends, classmates, and church community devastated by the loss of a vibrant and deeply loved young boy. Born on December 19, 2012, in Danville to Heather Coleman Joyce and Randall Hutcherson, Gavin’s short life was marked by joy, faith, and meaningful connections that continue to live on in the memories of those who knew him.
A seventh-grade student at Victory Baptist Church Academy, Gavin was remembered for his energetic personality, playful humor, and kind heart. He was a child who brought light into every room he entered, often lifting the spirits of others with his laughter and spirited nature. His faith in Jesus was an important part of his life, and he attended New Life Community Church, where his family found strength and comfort during this difficult time.
Gavin shared a particularly close bond with his brother, Evan, whom he deeply admired. Family was central to his world, and he treasured every moment spent with loved ones. Whether it was enjoying fast food outings, swimming at the beach or pool, or simply spending time at home, Gavin found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He also enjoyed video games, building with Legos, and collecting army men, reflecting his creativity and imagination.
He is survived by his parents, siblings, grandparents, extended family, friends, and beloved pets, all of whom will forever cherish his memory. Funeral services will be held on May 12, 2026, at New Life Community Church, with visitation on May 11, and burial at the Coleman Family Cemetery.
