Authorities in Richland County have arrested and charged two men in connection with the death of 34-year-old Jibrael Sesay, whose fatal shooting was initially reported as a single-vehicle crash.

Investigators say the case quickly evolved from a traffic collision response into a homicide investigation after evidence revealed the victim had suffered a gunshot wound.

Victim Identified After Early Misleading Crash Report

Deputies originally responded on April 19 at approximately 10:20 p.m. to reports of a vehicle crash with injuries on Humphrey Drive. When first responders arrived, they discovered a vehicle that had struck a tree and began rendering aid to the driver.

However, during the initial assessment, authorities determined that the driver, later identified as Jibrael Sesay of Columbia, had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The discovery shifted the investigation from a traffic accident response to an active homicide case.

Suspects Arrested and Charged

Following a rapid investigation involving witness statements, surveillance review, and video evidence, deputies identified two suspects:

Devante Walker, 27
Leroy McLamore, 29

Both individuals have been charged with:

Murder
Possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime

Authorities confirmed Walker was arrested on April 20, while McLamore was taken into custody on April 22. Both remain held in custody as the case proceeds.

Investigation Findings So Far

According to law enforcement, video evidence and interviews played a key role in linking both suspects to the shooting. Investigators believe the shooting occurred prior to the vehicle crashing into the tree, though the full sequence of events is still being pieced together.

Detectives continue to examine:

Forensic evidence from the vehicle
Ballistics related to the shooting
Surveillance footage from the surrounding area
Statements from witnesses and involved parties
Community Impact and Ongoing Case

The case has drawn significant attention due to the initial confusion surrounding the scene, where a fatal shooting was first mistaken for a traffic accident.

Officials have not released a potential motive, and the investigation remains active as prosecutors prepare for upcoming court proceedings.

Authorities continue to encourage anyone with additional information to assist investigators as they work to fully reconstruct the events leading to Sesay’s death.
