Investigators Say Multiple Shots Were Fired Outside Residence During Early-Morning Incident
Authorities in Shreveport are actively searching for a suspect accused in a domestic violence-related shooting that unfolded early Sunday morning at a local apartment complex.
The Shreveport Police Department confirmed that its Domestic Violence Unit is leading the investigation following the incident reported around 4:40 a.m. on May 10, 2026.
Victim Called 911 During Active Shooting
According to investigators, the victim contacted 911 after her ex-boyfriend, identified as Freddie L. James III, allegedly arrived unexpectedly at her apartment and began banging on the door.
Police say James then allegedly fired multiple rounds outside the residence before fleeing the scene.
Responding officers arrived to find evidence of extensive gunfire around the apartment complex.
Apartment and Vehicle Damaged by Gunfire
Detectives reported recovering numerous spent shell casings outside the building as part of the investigation.
Authorities say gunfire caused damage to:
The victim’s vehicle
The apartment’s front door
Portions of the second-floor exterior of the building
Investigators described the scene as showing significant evidence of rounds striking the residence.
Second Person Inside Apartment Returned Fire
During interviews with detectives, the victim stated that a male friend was inside the apartment when the shooting occurred.
According to police, the victim reported that after shots were fired outside, the male friend discharged a firearm from inside the apartment through a patio door toward the exterior area.
Authorities have not indicated whether anyone was struck during the exchange of gunfire.
History Between Victim and Suspect
Investigators say the victim informed police that she and James had previously been in a relationship for several months before ending it around March 2026.
Due to the domestic relationship between the parties involved, the case was turned over to the department’s Domestic Violence Unit for further investigation.
Arrest Warrant Issued With No Bond
Police confirmed that an arrest warrant has been issued for Freddie L. James III on one count of:
