A Mother’s Day shooting at an apartment complex in Athens has left a woman dead and sparked an ongoing homicide investigation, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.
Officers were called to the Chateau Terrace Apartments around 1:20 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a woman who had been shot. When police arrived, they found a female victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim was identified as 34-year-old Latisha Andrews of Athens. Despite emergency response efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene from her injuries, authorities confirmed.
Investigators later arrested 52-year-old Sharod Greene of Elberton in connection with the shooting. He has been charged with felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to police.
Officials have not released details about what may have led up to the shooting, and investigators continue to gather evidence, speak with witnesses, and review information as the case develops.
