The Lyons, New York community is grieving the heartbreaking and sudden loss of 35-year-old Branden J. Paradise, whose life was tragically cut short following a devastating motorcycle crash in Mentz, New York in Cayuga County on Sunday afternoon.

Branden’s passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is being remembered not only for the life he lived, but for the warmth, presence, and spirit he carried wherever he went.

According to the New York State Police, the crash occurred just after 4 p.m. on State Route 31 at the intersection with Brutus Mentz Townline Road. Investigators said a 2020 Nissan Pathfinder, driven by a 33-year-old Auburn woman, was traveling north on Centerport Road when it approached the intersection. After stopping at a stop sign, the driver entered the roadway and reportedly failed to see two westbound motorcycles that had the right of way.

Both motorcycles collided with the passenger side of the vehicle, resulting in a severe and life-altering crash.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, and both riders were airlifted to Upstate University Hospital in critical condition. Despite every effort made by medical staff, Branden J. Paradise, of Lyons, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The second motorcyclist, a 36-year-old Lyons man, remains hospitalized as he continues to fight through recovery. An 18-year-old passenger in the Nissan was also transported to Auburn Community Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

State Police confirmed that the driver remained at the scene and has been cooperative throughout the investigation. Officials also stated that there is currently no indication that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

Branden is being remembered as a deeply loved son, friend, and member of his community—someone who brought light into the lives of others and whose absence will be felt in countless ways. Those who knew him speak of his kindness, his easygoing nature, and the way he made people feel seen and valued.

Though his time here was far too short, Branden J. Paradise leaves behind memories that will be held close forever. His name will continue to live on in the stories shared, the love he gave, and the hearts of those who will never forget him.
