Authorities in Cincinnati are investigating a deadly shooting at Fountain Square that claimed the life of a 25-year-old CityBird employee Friday evening.

The shooting, which occurred in one of downtown Cincinnati’s busiest public gathering areas, marked the first reported shooting at Fountain Square since October, according to city crime data.

Officers Responded to Reports of Gunfire Friday Night

According to the Cincinnati Police Department, officers were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. Friday to the area of 5 Fountain Square Plaza following multiple reports of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they located 25-year-old Darius Wheeler suffering from gunshot wounds.

Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures before transporting Wheeler for medical treatment, but authorities later confirmed he succumbed to his injuries.

Suspect Identified and Charged

Police announced that 36-year-old Christopher Shipmon has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting.
