A Sumter County man is facing multiple serious charges after authorities say a disagreement escalated into gunfire Thursday evening, leaving one person wounded.
According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a reported shooting at a residence on Amelia Drive in Sumter on Thursday night. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they took the suspect, identified as Robert Stachura, into custody without further incident.
Investigators say the confrontation allegedly stemmed from a disagreement that quickly turned violent, resulting in shots being fired during the incident. One victim sustained a gunshot wound and was treated by emergency responders before being transported by EMS to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital for medical care. Officials have not released an update regarding the victim’s current condition.
Following the investigation, Stachura was charged with two counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
Authorities confirmed that bond was denied, and Stachura remains in custody at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center pending further court proceedings.
Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and additional information may be released as the case develops.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
