Police in Waterloo are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that left a 32-year-old man dead late Wednesday night, with the driver responsible still nowhere to be found.
Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of San Marnan Access Drive after multiple reports of a person lying motionless in the roadway. When first responders arrived, they found a man who had been severely injured after being struck by a vehicle that had already fled the scene.
Emergency crews with Waterloo Police and Fire worked quickly to provide aid at the location before rushing the victim to MercyOne Hospital. Despite all efforts, he was later pronounced deceased.
Authorities identified the man as 32-year-old Joshua Ehr of Waterloo.
Investigators believe the driver did not stop after the collision, leaving the scene before emergency crews arrived. No description of the vehicle has been released, and police have not announced any suspects at this time.
The area remained active for hours as officers processed the scene and searched nearby streets for evidence. Detectives are now reviewing possible surveillance footage and speaking with residents in hopes of tracking the vehicle involved.
The sudden loss has added to growing concern in the area, as authorities continue working to determine exactly how the crash unfolded and who may have been responsible.
Police are urging anyone who was in the San Marnan Access Drive area Wednesday night or who may have dashcam footage to come forward, saying even small details could be key to solving the case.
The investigation remains ongoing as Waterloo authorities continue their search for the driver who left Joshua Ehr fatally injured in the roadway.
