Emergency services are continuing a major investigation in Prescot following a shooting incident reported on Sunday afternoon, 24 May, in the area of Pottery Lane near Stadt Moers Park.
At approximately 2:50pm, police were called after reports that two men, both in their 20s, had been found with gunshot wounds. Officers and paramedics attended the scene quickly, and both victims were transported to hospital where they are undergoing medical assessment and treatment for their injuries.
The Merseyside Police have confirmed that a large cordon remains in place while specialist teams carry out urgent investigative work. Officers are conducting house-to-house enquiries, reviewing CCTV footage from nearby properties and businesses, and examining forensic evidence gathered at the scene.
Detectives believe the incident may have been targeted, although the exact circumstances and motive remain under active investigation. Authorities say establishing the sequence of events leading up to the shooting is a key priority.
Detective Superintendent Paul Speight said that while the investigation is still in its early stages, it is critical that officers secure and assess all available evidence as quickly as possible. He appealed directly to the public for assistance, urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or captured relevant footage on CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell devices to come forward immediately.
He also described the incident as particularly concerning given its timing and location in a residential area during a busy Sunday afternoon, emphasizing that the use of firearms in the community will be met with a determined investigative response.
Police have reiterated that those responsible, as well as anyone who may have assisted them, will be pursued as part of the ongoing operation. Residents are being advised to avoid the area while inquiries continue.
Authorities continue to appeal for information as the investigation develops.
