Woman Injured in Early Morning Far South Side Shooting; Chicago Police Investigate Home-Based Attack

A 29-year-old woman is recovering in critical condition after being shot multiple times during an early morning incident on Chicago’s Far South Side, according to authorities.

The incident occurred around 6:44 a.m. in the 600 block of East 131st Street, as reported by the Chicago Police Department. Officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of gunfire inside a residential property.

Preliminary information indicates the victim was inside the residence when a male suspect approached and opened fire. Police say the woman was struck three times in the leg during the shooting. Emergency responders rendered aid at the scene before she was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody shortly after the incident. Investigators have not yet released details regarding the individual’s identity or potential charges, and the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under active investigation.

Crime scene investigators remained in the area for several hours documenting evidence, canvassing nearby residences, and collecting witness statements in an effort to reconstruct the sequence of events. Police have not indicated whether the victim and suspect were known to each other.
