The Sparta community is mourning the tragic and sudden loss of 28-year-old Kiamber Usry, who died early Tuesday morning following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 22 in Hancock County, Georgia.
According to Hancock County Coroner Dontrelle Andrews, the crash occurred at approximately 2:50 a.m. when Usry was involved in a single-car wreck along the highway. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene after reports of a serious collision involving one vehicle.
Usry was transported to Atrium Health Baldwin for emergency treatment following the crash. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she later succumbed to her injuries. She was pronounced deceased at 5:16 a.m. Tuesday morning in the emergency room.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene and assisted with the investigation. Officials confirmed that the crash involved only one vehicle and no other motorists were involved.
News of Usry’s death has left the Sparta and greater Hancock County communities devastated, as friends, family, former classmates, and teammates struggle to process the sudden and heartbreaking loss. At just 28 years old, her passing has created a deep void among those who knew her best.
Coroner Andrews noted that Usry was well known in the community and remembered for her time as a standout basketball player at Central Hancock High School. Many who knew her are reflecting on her dedication, her athletic ability, and the impact she made during her school years, both on and off the court.
As word of the tragedy spread, condolences began pouring in from across the area, with many expressing sorrow over the loss of a young life gone far too soon. Loved ones are now left holding onto memories and mourning a future that has been tragically cut short.
