A tragic drowning incident in Allentown has claimed the life of a 17-year-old, according to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.
Officials said the incident occurred Thursday afternoon in the 300 block of Basin Street. Investigators reported that the teen entered Jordan Creek from a railroad trestle and did not resurface. Emergency crews were called to the scene, and the victim was later pronounced deceased.
An autopsy was completed Friday, and the Lehigh County Coroner determined the cause of death to be drowning. The manner of death was ruled accidental.
The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Ameer Simmons.
Multiple agencies assisted in the response and recovery efforts, including the Allentown Police Department, Allentown Fire Department Dive Team, Allentown EMS, the Lehigh County Drone Team, and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
Officials are reminding the public to exercise caution around rivers, creeks, and other natural waterways, especially during warmer months when water activity increases. Authorities continue to stress the dangers of fast-moving currents and unfamiliar water conditions.
