The Port Deposit community is mourning the tragic loss of 38-year-old Richard E. Hickman III, who died Thursday night following a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Cecil County.

According to the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office, emergency responders were called to the 300 block of Camp Meeting Ground Road shortly after the crash was reported at approximately 11:10 p.m. When crews arrived, Hickman was found unresponsive at the scene and was later pronounced deceased by the Cecil County Department of Emergency Services.

Investigators said Hickman was operating a 2024 Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on Camp Meeting Ground Road when he lost control while traveling through an uphill curve. The reason for the loss of control remains under investigation.

Authorities reported that after losing control, the motorcycle fell onto its left side and both Hickman and the bike slid across a nearby yard. During the slide, the motorcycle struck a large rock and a mailbox before coming to a stop. Officials continue to examine all possible factors that may have contributed to the crash.
