New York State Police are investigating a serious two-vehicle crash that left one woman dead and several family members injured Friday night in St. Lawrence County.
The crash occurred on May 29, 2026, at approximately 9:19 p.m. at the intersection of County Route 55 and U.S. Route 11 in the town of Lawrence.
According to investigators, a gray 2017 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by 55-year-old Ricky L. DeShane of Brasher Falls, was traveling northbound on County Route 55 when it failed to stop at the intersection. The vehicle then collided with the front passenger side of a gray 2016 Honda CR-V traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 11.
The CR-V was operated by 49-year-old Jesse P. Kaska of Chateaugay.
Inside the vehicle were front-seat passenger 53-year-old Tammy Brunette-Kaska, along with three teenagers: a 17-year-old male from Chateaugay, a 16-year-old female from Chateaugay, and a 14-year-old male from Brushton.
Emergency responders transported all occupants of the CR-V to Canton-Potsdam Hospital with serious injuries. The three juvenile passengers were later transferred to Upstate University Hospital, where they remain in stable but critical condition. The driver, Jesse Kaska, is also hospitalized and listed in stable condition.
Tammy Brunette-Kaska was admitted to Canton-Potsdam Hospital but later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The driver of the Chevrolet Traverse was transported to Alice Hyde Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
