Authorities reported that officers responded at approximately 4:40 p.m. to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 12900 block of Gumfork Place after a woman reported that her son, identified as 65-year-old Gary G. Shaw, had discharged firearms inside the home. The complainant stated she had taken refuge in an upstairs bedroom while Shaw, who also resides at the property, attempted to force entry into the room.

Upon entering the residence, responding officers encountered Shaw, who was reportedly armed with both a handgun and a long gun. During the confrontation, Shaw allegedly opened fire, striking two officers identified as Jacob Clark, 25, and Jacob Wells, 40, as well as a police canine named Knight.

The injured officers were transported to area hospitals and remain in critical but stable condition. The police canine was taken to an animal care facility but later died from injuries sustained in the incident.

Shaw was also shot during the exchange of gunfire and was transported to a hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition. On June 1, investigators obtained warrants charging him with two counts of attempted aggravated murder of a law enforcement officer, two counts of aggravated malicious wounding of a police officer, one count related to the killing of a police dog, and four counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

He was formally served with the warrants on June 2 and remains in police custody at the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Chesterfield County Police Department or Crime Solvers.
