The volleyball community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Madelyn “Maddi” Thams, a young athlete remembered for her bright spirit, kindness, and love for those around her, after she died in a crash on June 21.
Arsenal Volleyball Club announced Madelyn’s passing in a social media tribute, describing her as a cherished member of the club’s 12 Regional team. Coaches, teammates, and families across the program have shared messages of sorrow and support as they remember a player whose energy and enthusiasm left a lasting impact.
“Please keep Maddi’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time,” the club said in its statement.
Alongside the tribute, the organization shared arrangements for visitation and memorial services. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, June 26, at Allen Funeral Home in Davison, while a celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 27, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Flint.
A GoFundMe fundraiser titled “Celebrating Maddi’s Bright and Joyful Life” has also been launched to help the family with medical and funeral expenses. The page describes Madelyn as a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin, and friend whose loss has left her family devastated.
“Maddi was a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin, friend, and so much more,” the fundraiser states. “She leaves behind her devastated parents and her loving 12-year-old brother, who now face the unimaginable task of navigating life without their sweet girl and cherished sister.”
Friends and community members have responded with an outpouring of condolences, sharing memories of Maddi’s joyful personality, infectious smile, and caring heart. Teammates have remembered her as someone who encouraged others, celebrated every success, and made practices and tournaments brighter simply by being there.
