Laura McLinn-West Obituary, CAMDEN COUNTY, MO. — Laura McLinn-West, a 48-year-old woman from Laquey, has died following a motorcycle crash that occurred Sunday night in Camden County after the rider attempted to avoid a deer on a rural roadway, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Authorities identified McLinn-West as the passenger involved in the crash, which happened on Route A approximately 1,003 feet east of Rainwater Drive, east of Camdenton. The incident was reported as a fatal motorcycle collision involving a 2010 Harley-Davidson Ultra Glide.
According to the preliminary investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the motorcycle was traveling eastbound when a deer entered its path. The rider, identified as Dave West of Laquey, attempted to avoid the animal, causing the motorcycle to crash. Both the driver and passenger were thrown from the motorcycle during the collision.
Laura McLinn-West suffered critical injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment. Authorities confirmed that she later died from her injuries on Monday morning.
The motorcycle driver, Dave West, sustained moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital for medical care. No further updates on his condition have been released.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. Officials have not released additional details regarding contributing factors beyond the deer entering the roadway.
